ASBL Voies d'Eau du Hainaut

The association's aim is to promote tourist sites linked to waterways and bodies of water, in close collaboration with tourist offices. Notable sites include the Canal du Centre historique and its hydraulic elevators, the Strépy-Thieu funicular elevator and its canal bridge, and the Domaine de Claire-Fontaine and its relaxation center.

The Strépy-Thieu funicular elevator

Europe's largest boat elevator, this impressive concrete colossus rises 102 meters above the ground, and its upper section is the size of a soccer pitch! Coming from the E19-E42 freeway towards Mons, it rises like a huge black mushroom from the heights of Havré. On arrival, it's omnipresent: the Strépy-Thieu funicular elevator overlooks the Canal du Centre and the region.
